everyoneMD's Beginnings

by Gary

My mom started falling ill many months before being correctly diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. During that time, the doctors thought she just had a recurring infection and was given quite a bit of antibiotics. Naturally, I got more and more involved in my mom's care as it became apparent that something very serious was wrong. But the point that really did it for me was when she told me she was dying and the doctors weren't doing anything to figure out what was really wrong (at this point she had been sick for a few months and the cause was still unknown).

That's when I really dove in. I spent day and night at the hospital trying to make sure she was getting the proper treatment. When she was finally diagnosed with having Aplastic Anemia, I even took a sabbatical from work to study the medical literature in order to communicate more effectively with the physicians. However like many other patients and caregivers that are facing a rare disorder I couldn't get access to most of the information I needed.

It wasn't until I went to my first Aplastic Anemia conference in Denver and was able to talk to other people for the first time that I realized what needed to be done to help the community. Soon after, everyoneMD was created. Its purpose is to give patients a fast and efficient way to get organized, informed, and connected with others who can share their experiences and data.

The goal of everyoneMD is to empower patients by providing tools that enable them to anonymously:
  1. Share/acquire technical data from other patients.
  2. Generate professional, organized medical history reports.
  3. Communicate with other patients.
  4. Perform individual or community driven research.
