Latest Update (12/29/2008) -
My mom continues to do well. All her counts have been in the normal range for quite a while.
Below are some details of her treatment and blood counts.
Treatment
Diagnosed on November 2, 2004 at the age of 60.
Her treatment began two days later with 5 days of horse ATG followed by 350mg 2 times a day of cyclosporin. A little more than one month after treatment began, she was given another course of ATG. This is a deviation from what seems to be the standard protocol, whereby one would wait a much longer period of time before concluding that the initial treatment was ineffective. Platelets started responding after 3 months and completely recovered in March 2005. Red Blood Cells started responding after 6 months and completely recovered in December 2006. We were very lucky that she was never neutropenic.
